We Hosted Başak Mireli-The First Turkish Woman to Solo-Cross the Atlantic on International Women’s Day!
15 March 2025 Saturday
Our 11th-grade IB students organized the International Women's Day Summit as part of their Gender Equality Project within the "Turkey in the 20th Century" course. This summit highlighted the inequalities women face in all aspects of life, particularly in political, social, economic, and educational spheres. Additionally, solutions to these issues were proposed, creating strong awareness within the school community. The event emphasized the importance of women's active participation in decision-making processes across all areas of society and advocated for equal opportunities to enable them to become leaders at every level. As part of the event, an inspiring conversation was held with Başak MİRELİ, one of the most influential figures in the world of sports and the first Turkish female sailor to cross the Atlantic Ocean by sailboat. This motivational session, where the athlete shared her experiences, provided our students with new perspectives and once again demonstrated that all obstacles can be overcome with determination, courage, and perseverance. We extend our sincere gratitude to Ms. Başak MİRELİ for her valuable contributions.
