Turkish Literature Symposium: Exploring New Horizons and Solutions in Literature Teaching
15 March 2025 Saturday
The theme of our Turkish Literature Symposium, which we first organized in 1997, was "Problems, Solutions, and New Approaches in Literature Teaching" this year. Our symposium, held on March 1st, 2025, brought together esteemed academics who shared their valuable insights with our participants. Prof. Dr. Özay KARADAĞ contributed with his presentation on "Early Literacy Education," Prof. Dr. Bayram BAŞ discussed "Curriculum Literacy," and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tuğba Çelik KORAT shared her perspectives on "Universal Literature Education." With the participation of more than 150 teachers and representatives from 18 IB public and private schools, the symposium covered a wide range of significant topics related to Turkish and literature education. Subjects such as creative writing and reading activities, readiness in IBDP courses, reading-production workshops, primary school audiobook activities, letter teaching for inclusive education students, the implementation of the Maarif Model, UNESCO development goals and CAS connection, ecofeminist criticism and literature, writing activities with digital tools, critical thinking through P4C, Generation Z storytelling, love for the mother tongue and effective speaking, and teaching through design-oriented thinking were among the inspiring discussions followed with great interest by the participants. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all academics, teachers, and participants who contributed to this productive gathering, which shed light on Turkish and literature education.
